COLD WEATHER COMING SOON!Cat-in-the-Snow-Wallpaper-cats-28363007-1280-1024.jpg

This year it seems like cold weather is coming sooner than usual!  Almost as if summer ended, we skipped fall entirely, and we are jumping into winter.  Please make sure your kids are dressed appropriately for the weather each and every day.  Maybe put a stocking cap and some gloves in your child's backpack, just in case the weather changes quickly.  Another good tip is to send your kids to school every day with a hoodie or a jacket.  Even if they don't need it, at least they will have it.  Better to have too many layers than not enough.  Finally, for new families to Colorado, you have likely seen how quickly the weather can change here.  Just because it looks nice in the morning, doesnt mean it is going to stay that way for the rest of the day.  Prepare your kids for all of the possibilities that Colorado can serve up!

DEPLOYMENT CONCERNS

Doll.jpgAbout half of our students have family members who are serving our nation in the Armed Forces.  When military life significantly impacts our kids, we have someone who can help!  Mr. Rich Lins is our Military & Family Life Counselor (M.F.L.C.) and he is here at McAuliffe full time to work with students who are having emotional or behavioral issues or are otherwise struggling while family members are on deployment or PCSing in or out of Colorado Springs.  To help with these issues, Mr. Lins has been assisting military families connect with useful resources such as the military dolls pictured here.  Pictures of the deployed family member can be inserted in the window.  These can be ordered from www.huggeemissyou.com.  Another valuable resource is Military OneSource (www.militaryonesource.mil) where many of the books that Mr. Lins uses with our children can be found at no cost.  The site also offers a multitude of links and contacts where military families can find other helpful resources.  If you or your student are interested in meeting with Mr. Lins, please contact him at (719) 228-0979 or e-mail him at linsrg@d11.org.

Calling all Volunteers!

Would you like to volunteer at McAuliffe Elementary this school year?  We are always in need of volunteers to help out in our classrooms, in the library, on field trips, and for other events throughout the school year.  District 11 policy requires all volunteers to complete a Volunteer Registration Form.  Click here to begin your Volunteer Registration.

All registration forms must be printed and brought into the McAuliffe office, along with a picture ID, to complete the volunteer registration process.  If you do not have access to a computer and/or printer, you may complete your volunteer registration form at McAuliffe.

If you have previously completed a Volunteer Registration form, there is no need to complete another one.  The office can check to see if you are still a registered volunteer.  If you have questions regarding the volunteer registration process or volunteer opportunities at McAuliffe, please call the office at 228-0900.

School Uniforms:

All students are expected to adhere to uniform policy at all times. Uniforms consist of beige khaki pants, shorts, or school appropriate skirts (no navy blue) along with a black, white, navy, or light blue shirt with a collar and no logo. There is no required brand for any part of the uniform. Special days will be designated as non-uniform days (picture day, pajama day, Halloween, etc.). On colder days, turtlenecks and sweaters that adhere to uniform colors are allowed.
For uniform assistance contact  the office at 719-228-0900
Car Pool:
Do you need help getting your children to and from school?  The Colorado Springs Transit Service provides the Metro Rides' School pool Program.  It is a free matching service to help parents find local car pools to aid in getting their kids to and from school.
